Is there such a thing? Yup…but not in Knoxville. One day when we live in Maui (and we will), we’ll get to unabashedly experience the joys of warm weather and lazy days on the beach. Till then this equator baby will just have to settle for last minuteĀ  trips to le beach to get me through fall and winter.

Did I mention that I hate cold weather?

For your viewing pleasure, please do enjoy the following tidbits that will keep me warm in the coming months. My acorns stored for winter…if you will.

Read on Lovers…learn from a pro!

Admirer: “You’re beautiful AND delicious.”

Me: “Oh yeah? What’s the difference between the two?”

Admirer: “Well, you’re so beautiful that I want to stand like 10 feet away just so I can look at you from across the room. But you’re also so delicious that it makes me want to get close enough for a treat.”

Cheesy? Maybe. But I’m saucy…so he got lucky.

Thanks Favorite!

Here are some pics in the meantime…

I Must Be The Nanny by avill7

This is apparently the only logical conclusion that’s left for people to reach when they encounter me out in the world (sorry, K-Town) with Chick Pea. What else would a blonde haired white baby be doing with a dark haired, tan-skinned young lady?

Surely I jest…but no. I’ve actually been asked if I’m the nanny on 3 seperate occasions and I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve been askedĀ  “So where’d the blonde hair come from?”.

Seriously?

Would it take a genious to figure out that if it’s not from me, then maybe (just maybe) it might be from the other gene-contributing parent? Or that I must have some recessive genes? And why am I never asked if I adopted?

Who knows. Maybe it’s the spanish speaking, the brown skin, and/or the lack of diversity in the areas I frequent. Either way, it provides for much entertainment here at Meville and beyond! Plus, Favorite loves it when people think he has a cute nanny.

Exiled…How Bad Do I Have To Be? by avill7

I’m totally willing to act as a spoiled, pampered, ungrateful, undeserving, demanding, and annoying diva wanna-be for a couple of weeks if I could receive the same punishment that these dingbats are getting on MTV’s new show Exiled.

Remember the Sweet Sixteen spawns of satan? Oh whatever, like you didn’t watch every episode! Well, they’re now being “punished” by being shipped off to exotic areas in the world to learn what it’s like for others that aren’t as privileged. They’re being sent to stay with families and tribes in places like Kenya, Brazil, Peru, Australia, and Thailand just to name a few.

Uh yeah…all places on my travel wish list. And I would LOVE to stay with the locals and learn from them!

I wish Youtube had a clip from Amanda’s trip to Kenya up already so you can watch it and tell me you don’t want to punch her in the kidney. You can watch the whole episode on MTV’s site or cry yourself to sleep over the missed opportunity because I’m sure they’ll never ever ever show it again.

Okay so jealousy aside, I have a niece that could really benefit from something like this. Any chance I could just ship her off to you MTV folks?

Daddy is a Weird Chicken Laying 9 Eggs by sadcox

That must be what this video is saying, because Chick Pea loves to sit in my lap and watch it. The chicken and eggs part I pick up on from the video itself. I’m guessing the part about “Dada” because she says that the entire time she’s watching it.

Go ahead and watch this, I don’t know, eight or nine times, and you’ll get an idea of how my day starts. I love it that she sits in my lap to watch it, but I’ve realized that my Spanish had better get much better soon, or I’ll be looking at a lifetime of being made fun of while sitting there clueless and stupid.

Oh, Little Gray Hair by avill7

Picture the Chick Pea Family enjoying the beautiful morning in our back patio…little Pea was inspecting her rocks as usual while we watched on in the warm sunlight. I felt Favorite’s gaze on me, so I made my best attempt at looking like a morning goddess with the soft breeze flowing through my hair. I love it when he gives me attention and tells me I look pretty, so naturally I was silently giddy with excitement about the forthcoming compliment.

“Oooh look, you’ve got a gray hair! Now you’re old like me…hahaha.”

Mm, thanks.

It was bound to happen. The little gray hair that showed up a few months ago (okay, a year ago) has made itself known to the outside world. Try as I did to hide it, it reared up its silvery little pointy head to break through my otherwise silky dark chocolate tresses. Even though I’ll be turning thirty this year, I think the arrival of my first gray hair seems a little premature for this spring chicken.

I guess I should make peace with the unwelcome little platinum lock since he’ll no doubt be multiplying soon. That or I could color the hell out of it because I’m not ready to grow old gracefully.

Pea’s Passtimes by avill7

Pea turned one during my blogging hiatus and oh, how she’s changed. She’s still as demanding as ever and continues to receive passing scores on the high needs spectrum. But she’s much more independent since she started walking a couple of months ago…at least for a few minutes at a time. The other minutes in the hours of every day continue to be filled with her not-so-secret goal of fusing herself to my hip (I know, all of you IRL “friends” are laughing and wondering where I got the ludicrous notion that I have hips…whatever).

Believe it or not, I’m still thrilled that I get to spend every day watching her turn in to the little mischievous imp that she is. So here’s what she’s been up to and her current favorite things to do:

She has learned to:

  • walk and shimmy sideways
  • listen to, respond, and selectively ignore things in Spanish and English
  • sleep through the night (this will be its own post later!)
  • throw a ball (Favorite’s very proud)
  • flirt and hang out with Jack
  • make animal sounds that all suspiciously sound like a monkey…or a cow

She currently loves to:

  • say “no” while shaking her head (WTF, did she accidentally turn two?)
  • smoosh hug The Kittens
  • play with dirt and rocks (she doesn’t even put them in her mouth anymore)
  • clap and dance with the toy on the fridge
  • read books (it’s okay to be jealous because she’s that advanced)
  • snack on avocados and kitten food
  • go afuera (outside)

She has come a long way…
